LIFE

Eternity awaits all people

Do you ever get a song stuck in your head which keeps replaying over and over again? Once in a while, that happens to me and currently one is stuck. The latest song is actually a hymn titled "I Know Whom I Have Believed."

I honestly don't know why that particular song came to mind. We haven't sung it recently at church. I didn't leaf through the hymnal and see the title. The tune and words just started to play through my mind.

Here are the words to the chorus:

But I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I've committed unto Him against that day.

In whom do I believe? I reaffirm mentally that I believe in the one and only God, the Creator of everything, even me.

What am I persuaded about? That God is able and willing to keep me in close relationship with Him. I've committed my life to Him. Therefore, my name is written in the Lamb's Book of Life and He will welcome me to my eternal home when it is my time. When will "that time" come? That is unknown to me, but totally known to God. My earthly task is to believe in Jesus Christ and confess my sins and then live as Jesus did on this earth. Of course, I should proclaim the truth of Jesus to anyone willing to listen so that none would perish in eternal hell. There is an eternity for ALL people. God has given each of us the free will to make the choice of where we will spend that eternity.

Do you know in whom you believe? Are you persuaded that God is able? Do you understand the desire of God's heart to have a personal relationship with YOU? What choice have you made concerning your eternity?

If you know this hymn, spend some time humming the tune and pondering the words of the song and the questions I have presented. Consider this day of your eternal destination because tomorrow is NOT guaranteed for any of us.

Seeds of Hope

It began as a day like any other day. James Galway, a brilliant flutist, was happily walking to his morning rehearsal. While crossing a street, a speeding motorcyclist hit him and shattered the bones in both of his legs and one arm.

He was rushed to the hospital and the orthopedic surgeons immediately began a lengthy operation as they attempted to repair the damage. Unfortunately, the bones did not heal as quickly or properly as they had anticipated. As a result, he had to remain in the hospital for many months. As he left the hospital, he said, “It took quite a while to pick up the pieces.”

While he was still recovering from the accident, he told a fellow musician, “I decided from the moment I left the hospital, I would play every concert, record every album, give every performance and live every day as though it may be my last.” He summed it all up by saying that his new goal in life was to make sure that every time he played, his performance would be as near to perfection as God wanted it to be!

No doubt that is what Paul had in mind when he wrote, “Whatever you may do, do all to the glory and honor of God!”

There is a two-fold implication in this verse: Whatever we do is a choice. And with that choice, if we are a Christian, there is an opportunity to bring honor and glory to God. So, not only are our decisions critical but with each one we make, we represent Christ.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, guide us in each of our choices. Make us conscious of everything we do, knowing that we are always representing You by the way we live. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Scripture For Today: So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
